PHILIP JOSE FARMER R.I.P.

February 25th:
Philip José Farmer passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning.

He will be missed greatly by his wife Bette, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and countless fans around the world.

January 26, 1918 - February 25, 2009. R.I.P.

His best known books were probably the 5 books of the Riverworld Trilogy. My favourite was Tarzan Alive - a biography of Lord Greystoke which treated the Tarzan books & most popular English language books of the 19th & early 20thC as slightly exagerated truth. His family tree of all these characters is still a joy. I am sure this was an influence on the Greystoke movie where he is only ever referred to by the title name & certainly on Moore & O'Neill's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Following in the footsteps of Satellite 1, we are pleased to announce Satellite 2, a 2-day convention marking the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.

Following in the footsteps of Satellite 1, Satellite 2 is a 2-day science fiction convention featuring the usual mixture of talks, games, panel discussions, and quizzes typical of a Glasgow Convention. There will be a real ale bar, a dealers’ room, with SF bookshop At the Sign of the Dragon, and a small art show.
July 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, and so some of programme will have a lunar theme, ranging from discussions of how the moon is portrayed in SF, to the chance to fake your very own moon landing

Satellite 2 is extremely excited to have Iain M. Banks as our Guest of Honour. Iain needs no introduction, but for anyone not familiar with his work – Welcome to Planet Earth!
We will be updating the site regularly as our programme develops and watch out for the Adventures of Roger. Roger is our convention mascot and has been travelling far and wide to promote Satellite 2.
We look forward to seeing you next July in Glasgow!
